Spectacle Island, 8/9/2026
In my Math 22 course from 2022,
I had covered some Island
Mathematics which essentially boils down to a Poincare-Hopf theorem: The theorem is that the number of peaks and sinks
minus the number of saddles is always 1 on an island that is simply connected. The "Spectacle Island" which we visited
yesterday is such an island. It has two mountain peaks and one sink.
Here is the slide show I had prepared for that class of March 11, 2022.
It covers also a bit of the history of the spectacle island. It is spectacular.
As usual, click on the thumbnail to see the 3D panorama and wait until it is loaded.
