The workshop will focus on a proof of the Catalan conjecture.
The conjecture was made by Belgian mathematician
Eugénie Charles Catalan
in 1844 and asserts that 8 and
9 are the only consecutive powers (excluding 0 and 1).
Recently, Preda Mihailescu obtained a beautiful
proof.
The proof does not require to
be acquainted with a large mathematical background.
Predocs and postdocs are strongly encouraged to attend and/or to give talks.
